Privacy Policy

This policy explains what personal information YardGrade collects, how we use it, and the choices you have. YardGrade serves Canada and is operated from Ontario, Canada. We handle personal information in line with Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA). By using YardGrade or submitting a quote request, you agree to this policy. Effective date: September 3, 2026.

What information does YardGrade collect?

YardGrade collects the details you enter in a quote request: your name, email, phone number, service, area or postal code, and the project details you choose to share. We also collect basic technical data, such as your IP address and browser type, in standard server logs to keep the site secure and working. We do not ask for sensitive information like financial account numbers, and you should never send it to us.

How does YardGrade use your information?

We use the information in your quote request for one main purpose: to match you with up to 3 local contractors who can send you quotes to compare. We may also use your email to reply to you, confirm your request, or follow up about that specific quote. Contractors pay YardGrade when a homeowner picks them; that is how the free service is funded. We share your information only as described below, with your consent, and never with data brokers, marketers or spam lists, and we do not use it for unrelated advertising. Server logs are used only for security, troubleshooting and preventing abuse.

Who does YardGrade share your quote details with?

This is important, so we state it plainly. When you submit a quote request, and as the form states when you submit, YardGrade sends an anonymized version of your request, your service, area, property type, timeline and project description, but not your name, email, phone or full postal code, to up to 3 matched local contractors. Those contractors send back quotes for you to compare. Your contact details, your name, email and phone, are shared only with the one contractor you pick from those quotes. We never sell your information to anyone. Contractors are independent businesses; once you pick one and we share your contact details, that contractor handles your information under its own privacy practices. We share your request only with pros matched to your service and area, never as a public listing.

Does YardGrade use cookies or analytics?

Yes, both. YardGrade uses essential cookies to run the site, such as remembering your progress in the quote form. We also use Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages people actually use, so we know which parts of the directory are worth keeping. Google Analytics sets two cookies in your browser, named _ga and _ga_GQK6P914CV. They last about two years unless you clear them, and they tell us things like which pages were viewed and roughly where in the world the visit came from. We use it to understand traffic, never to work out who you are. We do not run advertising pixels, we do not sell any of it, and it is not loaded on our internal admin pages.

If you would rather not be counted, you can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, use private browsing, or install Google's own opt-out browser add-on. The rest of the site works normally either way.

Being straight about a change: until August 19, 2026 this page said YardGrade ran no third-party analytics, and promised that if we ever added any we would update this policy first. Google Analytics was switched on before that update was made, so for a period this page was wrong and the promise was not kept. This paragraph is here instead of quietly rewriting the old one.

How does YardGrade handle business listing data?

Our directory lists businesses using public information, such as company names, addresses, phone numbers, ratings and reviews sourced from Google Maps and business websites. This is public business data, not private personal data. If you own a listed business and want your listing corrected or removed, email hello@yardgrade.ca with your business name and request. We process removal and correction requests, usually within 2 business days.

What are your privacy rights under PIPEDA?

Under PIPEDA you can ask what personal information YardGrade holds about you, request a copy, ask us to correct it, and withdraw your consent to our use of it. To exercise any of these rights, email us and we will respond within a reasonable time, generally 2 business days for a first reply. Note that once you have chosen a contractor and we have shared your contact details with them, you will also need to contact that business directly to manage the copy it holds.

How does YardGrade comply with CASL?

Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL) governs commercial email. YardGrade sends only transactional messages tied to a quote you requested, such as confirmations and follow-ups about that job. We do not send marketing newsletters or promotional blasts. If we ever introduce optional marketing email, it will be strictly opt-in with a clear unsubscribe link in every message, as CASL requires.

How does YardGrade store and retain your data?

We keep quote requests only as long as needed to complete the match and handle any follow-up, then remove or anonymize them on a periodic basis. We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards to protect the information we hold, though no method of transmission over the internet is perfectly secure. Data may be processed on servers located in Canada or the United States by our hosting and email providers.

How do I contact YardGrade about privacy?

For any privacy question or request, email hello@yardgrade.ca. If we make material changes to this policy, we will post the updated version here with a new effective date. Please also review our terms of service, which govern your use of YardGrade.
